WRITTING A HAIKU: IDEAS, FORMAT AND PROCESS

Al igual que hemos hecho en el área de lengua española y literatura, vamos a estudiar el haiku desde el punto de vista de la lengua inglesa. Para ello vamos a acudir al siguiente enlace:

HOW TO WRITTE A HAIKU

PROPUESTAS DE TRABAJO:

1.- Which three classic haiku authors does the text name?

2.- How many verses does a haiku have and what syllabic structure do they have?

3.- What is the main theme of haiku?

4.- Why is taking a walk in nature a good idea to get inspired by haiku writing?

5.- Why meditating to orient yourself to the present can help us write haikus?

6.- Haiku uses many words related to the world of sensations: think of ten of them and write them down below.

7.- Haiku often uses the seasons as inspiration. Name the four seasons in English and write down at least four adjectives that are characteristic of each of them.

8.- Translate the following summary of haiku into Spanish

Template for a Haiku Poem

First line: 5 syllables]

[Second line: 7 syllables]

[Third line: 5 syllables]

A haiku is a traditional form of Japanese poetry that consists of three lines, with the first and third lines having five syllables and the second line having seven syllables. The haiku often focuses on nature and has a season word (kigo) that references the time of the year the poem is describing. Some examples of haiku:

Golden leaves fall

Silent woods now whisper

Autumn's gentle call

Mountain stream flows fast

Boulders polished by its rush

Nature's artwork cast

It's important to note that the Haiku format is a guide, and there are no strict rules for the structure and themes, you can always express yourself in a different way and experiment with different subjects, but the syllable count should remain the same.

9.- It's time for you to put your poetic skills into practice in English. Write two haikus trying to maintain the classic structure of the haiku.
